Reason one
The first reason is the “immortality mindset”
We don’t like to think about the fact that at some point in the future, we are all going to become seriously ill and die and we don’t know when that will be.
It’s much easier to pretend this isn’t going to happen because we can avoid the discomfort and fear that comes with those thoughts.
If I don’t think about it, I don’t need to worry at all, I can continue in the belief that I am immortal.
Reason Two
The second reason is that some people believe that insurance companies don’t pay out. This is a myth.
The reality is that in 2015, Australian insurers paid out the following amounts to Australians:
Death benefits over $2.9billion
Total and Permanent Disability over $1.5 billion
Trauma over $710million
Income protection over $1.6 billion
That’s a total of over $6.9 billion
Do you think all these people expected to claim when they took out their policies? No
- This is not a one-off statistic: over the last 10 c years the total payouts have
added up to almost $40 billion paid to policyholders.
That’s a lot of people who didn’t ever want to claim – but had to.
Imagine the relief all those claimants would have felt because they had the foresight to plan in advance for the unexpected
Reason Three
The third reason people don’t look after their future is that they are put off by the amount of time and effort it takes to organize this insurance. Most people are too busy with their lives, businesses, jobs and children to spend the hours it would take to get this organized on their own.
These are the three reasons and when you look into them closely you can see there aren’t really any valid reasons to not insure yourself.
If you need help getting that organised please get in touch with me here.
